Is it possible that eating will help people lose weight? Could the thousands of obese Americans currently now at risk of heart attack, stroke, Type 2 Diabetes, and cancer lose weight without going hungry by drinking red smoothies made with ingredients used by the Incas? Don’t they need to exercise and just eat normally, choosing smaller portions and generally better foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains?

Liz Swann Miller believes smoothies are all they need and hopes this will be true for anyone visiting her site who is feeling stuck. She posts not so much a website as an audio presentation which takes a long time to get through five points about food, the food industry, fat, and more.

Compelling Personal Story

What draws the listener in automatically is the heart-rending and familiar story of how Liz Swann Miller was humiliatingly overweight. Her doctor even feared this young woman would die early as a result of her weight problem. Images (if they are legitimate) show a woman go from fat to skinny; physically unattractive to desirable. According to Swann Miller her transformation was sudden. During just the first few days in South America drinking red berry smoothies using certain spices the Spanish believed were as valuable as gold and diamonds, she lost weight. She wasn’t hungry and felt healthier all the time.

A Few Days in South America

When she arrived in South America, the young woman from Alabama was 80 lbs overweight. She had only recently celebrated her great exam results by eating far too much and was feeling extremely unwell. Breathing was difficult. She sweated a lot. Her pants were too tight. After a few more days she was squirming inside of too-large pants and could move around more easily. She attributed her rapid weight loss to the drinks produced from local ingredients in a place where her comfort foods like pizza and fatty breads were unavailable. She had no choice but to drink or eat what they gave her and was surprised to find them so satisfying.

Transformed and Feeling Good

Before her trip, Liz Swann Miller used to feel unlovable and cried herself to sleep at night. After her trip, the fact was clear: she had to learn more about food, about what she had just experience, and then pass on the information to her family and friends. Her parents were overweight and her siblings were on their way to trouble too. With Liz’s help they lost weight, looked younger, and felt more energized. She discovered that legitimate science backed what she was finding to be true about the smoothies and about the dangers of modern, western foods.

Dangerous Foods

The presentation is fascinating even if you have read books about the modern diet or seen presentations before. Much of what you hear on Liz’s site or read in her book is widely known already. We should not drink diet pop because aspartame is bad for us and could be causing cancer. Did you know, however that people who drink diet pop are twice as likely to experience heart problems as those who drink an equivalent amount of pop sweetened with sugar? Have you made the connection before between processed foods and your metabolism or fat-free foods and weight gain?

red-smoothie-detox-factor-buy-nowRefined carbs are bad; everyone knows that by now. Refined foods have been adapted from their natural state, such as wheat turned into flour or meat processed with nitrates and sodium to become deli slices. Baked products, even homemade ones, are full of them. It’s not that you can’t ever enjoy a slice of cake. It’s just that, after years of eating a certain way and for the wrong reasons, one slice leads to a whole cake eaten without friends in the comfort of one’s own bedroom with the curtains closed.

Good Foods

And there are lies out there about fats and Omega oils which make it so frustratingly difficult to successfully lose weight. For instance, people think low-fat is good, but you should strive to avoid bad fats and get lots of good ones instead. There are loads of excellent fats out there which wind up in a Red Smoothie Detox drink, and not fish, the best-known source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Liz Swann Miller assures her listeners from a professional perspective that not all fats are made equal, and not all fruits and veggies are good for you either, but she gets more deeply into that in her book.

Muscle Matters

The important thing to remember here is that good fats contribute to muscle development. They contain proteins which aid the body in laying down and repairing muscle cells, and muscles are little fat-burning furnaces even when you sleep. More muscle means faster fat loss, greater strength, confidence, and the ability to take part in activities which were once out of reach.

Hungry and Helpless

A lot of foods are also tricking our brains into thinking we need more, making us hungry all the time. These include the numerous synthetic ingredients flavoring our favorite snacks and protein bars. Add the tendency to eat emotionally and obese people haven’t got a chance. It isn’t their fault argues Liz Swann Miller; they have been lured by the food industry to eat poorly, so they are hooked on sugar and bad fats. This makes food corporations rich and leaves obese Americans feeling physically and emotionally poor.

Bad Gut

A reference is also made to the gut and bad bacteria which thrives there owing to the predominance of sugar in our diets. It doesn’t take long for low-fat, sugar rich foods to cause this problem. You’re supposed to eat yogurt to encourage the growth of good bacteria, but the opposite is happening with fat-free, sweetened yogurts. When bad bacteria take over we cannot absorb nutrients, wind up bloated, feel hungry but sick, and our bodies become confused. Good bacteria (probiotics) contribute to bowel regularity and a general sense of well-being because when they are restored to their place in the gut, nutrients are put to their proper use as well.

Losing Weight Quickly

red-smoothie-detox-factor-buy-nowNot only did Liz Swann Miller lose weight, she has taught her patients how to do the same thing for the past 15 years in her private naturopathy practice. She sees depressed, desperate people all the time who think they will have to starve in order to lose weight or exercise a lot. They feel like they can’t do it, not carrying 80 extra pounds around; it’s impossible to walk briskly and their only friend is their fridge.

First they have to detox and get rid of the chemicals that are making their metabolism so slow. Once those are gone, transformation is rapid. They don’t starve either. Those chemicals were responsible for feeling hungry, not a legitimate need for food. They also caused premature aging and illness. Results are so quick one might question if they are strictly safe, but when there is a lot of weight to come off it’s not unusual to see fast weight loss. The question is “will the weight stay off?” That’s up to the individual.

Long Presentation

Liz Swann Miller presented 5 points regarding weight loss myths, the most surprising of which might have been that you need to eat fat to burn fat and also reduce your risk of cancer. The numerous associations with legitimate studies posted on the web page support her claims and the prospect of detoxifying and losing weight the same way this author did it. Her presentation was good, although at times repetitive, but always backed by interesting studies. As I say, the results of some studies are already well known and accepted.

What is She Selling?

Liz Swann Miller is selling weight loss and healing but not a smoothie product; a book (See it HERE). She is a best selling author responsible for helping about 200,000 people get to a healthy weight, thanks to her teaching and writing. Her clients feel better. They take part in more activity. Exercise was neither practical nor necessary in order to achieve this feat, at least not in the beginning. Eventually, with all of that extra energy, participants in this detox plan tend to want to do more anyway. They have energy and a positive outlook.

Liz is also the author of other juicing and smoothie books. Red isn’t the only positive color in her kitchen, although one has to wonder if she ever gets bored with smoothies or what happens when she eats a steak. I feel as though this program could be very difficult to stick with for many overweight and obese individuals. She is right in what she says about an obesity epidemic, but even if they aren’t hungry while on the smoothie diet, participants will eventually get bored unless this kick starts more lifestyle changes which allow participants to develop normal eating habits without the danger of taking a lot of backward steps and winding up in their doctor’s offices again soon.

As for Red Smoothie Detox, it is published on Amazon and on her site here. Anyone can do this without being picked up by a publisher – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing because there are plenty of good books out there that have to be self-published in these days of high competition to get your manuscript seen by a publishing house. I doubt that her fears of being stifled for her views about modern food are worth anything, but I’m glad if this meal system makes people sleep better and feel healthier.
